Data Specialists, Inc. was founded in May 1987 by Mark and his then-partner Karen Ekholm (Riemer), after working together at an accounting firm in Greenville. Shortly after its inception, Linda Ruble joined the team, bringing additional expertise and dedication to the growing business.

In 2006, Cindi Rees became part of the team, where she was mentored by Karen. Upon Karen’s retirement, Cindi stepped into the role of partner alongside Mark, continuing the legacy of personalized and professional service.

Mark’s entrepreneurial spirit extended beyond Data Specialists, Inc. For 31 years, he owned and operated Birchwood Golf Course in Howard City, until its sale in 2012. Building on his passion for financial services, he established Mark Heath, LLC, providing financial planning and services. In 2013, he became licensed to represent and sell retirement annuities and life insurance.

Although Data Specialists, Inc. and Mark Heath, LLC are separate entities, they complement one another seamlessly. Mark’s expertise as a tax specialist offers a unique advantage in financial planning, bridging a gap often overlooked in the industry. By integrating tax and retirement planning, Mark ensures clients receive comprehensive guidance many financial planners defer to outside tax professionals.
